Welcome to Reception

Within our Early Years Reception Provision, we have two classes; Sky Class and Sunshine Class. Whilst we have separate classes, we work very closely together and share both an indoor and continuous outdoor provision environment. We have very recently implemented 'The Hygge Approach' to enable a calm, nurturing environment which fosters feelings of cosiness, happiness and familiarity, capturing a sense of security and wellbeing for children during their early stages of education. Within this approach, the use of natural materials and loose parts are used, encouraging children to explore, investigate and learn through first-hand experiences of open-ended resources, providing them with endless opportunities to be curious, sparking their imagination and creating wow moments of awe and wonder!

Our Reception Team

  • Miss Allen – Sky Class Teacher (Mon-Wed)
  • Mrs Hill – Sky Class Teacher (Thu - Fri)
  • Mr Thompson – Sunshine Class Teacher
  • Mrs Curtis – Learning Support Assistant
  • Miss Grant – Learning Support Assistant

Routines

  • Children enter the classroom at 8.40a.m via our garden gate on the circular playground. Classroom doors are open on arrival and children will be greeted by their class teacher.
  • The children leave at 3. 15p.m via this gate at the end of the day and are handed over to a recognised adult. Please inform us of any changes.
  • At the beginning and end of the school day, the children are independent in putting away their belongings, including their water bottle, book bag and hanging up their coat.

 Snack

  • A fruit snack is provided for your child in Reception, during both the morning and afternoon. During one of these sessions, children who are entitled to milk or have paid for it, will also have this as part of the snack offering. If you would like to provide a snack for your child, please ensure this consists of either a fruit or vegetable.
  • All children should bring a named water bottle to keep them hydrated throughout the school day. This must consist of water only. Children have access to fill their water bottles during the school day.

PE & Outdoor Learning

  • During PE days, please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit and footwear, in line with the school uniform policy. For outdoor learning, please ensure your child has appropriate layers and outerwear for the weather, including waterproofs.
